Looking for a way to make learning the ABC’s super fun for you and your child? Have I got a treat for you!
I stumbled across (Kids Can Press, 2010) at my local library. The cover image caught my eye right away and made me smile. I’m not usually a fan of ABC books. The typical ABC book (A is for apple or aardvark or ant) bores me to tears. They are tedious at best and excruciating at worst.
But this book is a delight. Marjorie Blain Parker’s text, like that of most ABC books, is very simple but it does have a twist. Canada Goose online Each page names not only an animal, but what a grouping of that animal is called. For instance, did you know that a group of bears is called a sloth or that a group of foxes is called a skulk? There are some seriously good trivial pursuit goodies in here!
What really makes this book so wonderful, however, is Joseph Kelly’s illustrations. In my younger days, I wanted to be an artist and creating images like the ones in this book is why. Kelly’s paintings are full of gorgeous light that bring them to life on the page. The compositions draw your eye into the scene, helping you discover all the little details and nuances of the picture. And the animals OMG, they are just too funny. From rhinos riding bumper cars to elks on skateboards to wolves playing chess in the park, each image is full of humor that will send both you and your child into fits of giggles. Each critter (and, there are a lot of them!) is rendered in such a way that you get a sense of all the individual personalities. And, I’m telling you, the smiling ducks (who appear in every scene) will absolutely make you smile, too.
So, if you’re looking for an ABC book that will entertain, teach more than just the ABCs, and be forever pleasing to the eye, I highly recommend .
